Mercury Development was founded in 1999 with 3 developers and the desire to help companies improve the way they interact with technology. Since inception, we understood that hiring bright individuals was far more important than looking for specific programming language experience. This has allowed us to invest in emerging technologies and find unique niches. Our first 3 developers all had advanced degrees in Math or Computer science and although they were proficient developing for Windows, databases and web, our first few projects were for the emerging Palm platform.
Although our early growth was certainly helped by the dot com bubble, the intelligence of our staff and our ability to learn new platforms helped us weather the burst. In 2001 Apple released OSX, a complete technological departure from the previous OS versions. The new platform, based on FreeBSD, represented an opportunity to get in on the ground floor and our investment in learning OS X development resulted in our becoming one of the first Mac OS X development companies and Mac OS development today is a significant part of our business.
As our Mac OS X and cross-platform business grew, we again expanded our offerings, this time to include Linux and embedded. Our first major embedded project capitalized on the Math expertise of several of our developers to optimize and port a multimedia audio codec to DSP's of ADSP, LSI, TI and Intel.
The multimedia aspect of our embedded work along with our Mac OS experience lead to our first project for the professional audio industry: developing several audio plug-ins for the Pro-Tools professional audio editing software (one version of Pro-Tools requires a DSP). Following the success of this project, we marketed our Pro-Tools development skills and have built up a portfolio of customers in the audio and video engineering industries.
At the same time, our Windows business has continued to grow. In response to customer demand, we built up a substantial amount of .NET development resources and have developed several enterprise .NET applications with MS SQL backend databases. Eighty percent of our Windows developers are MCP's or MCPD's which enabled us to become Microsoft Gold Certified Partners in 2007 with the Custom Development Solutions, Data Management Solutions and Mobility Solutions competencies.
Also contributing to our achieving MS Gold Certified status was our Mobile Solutions department, which had added Windows Mobile as a capability when Palm OS market share began to fall. Our Bough freeware Windows Mobile game has passed MS compatibility testing.
Finally, we recently acquired Apple Premier ADC member status making us one of very few companies to hold the highest level of partner program status with both Microsoft and Apple.
Now, our diverse team of developers and QA engineers allow us to respond to client needs quickly, providing customized solutions to specific challenges on numerous platforms. Please contact us with your project details so we may add you to our list of satisfied customers.
